I'm wondering how you're doing
As if you are a pale flower
Bowing into a rippling mirror
Or a hawk diving at the shadow of its wing.

There are old enchantments
On these scrying stones--
Make the eyes roll toward your bones
And between two firmaments.

The snake licks his tail,
The spider consumes her child,
But the Son of Man, meek and mild
Eats pain, the all-consuming wail.

And what world now do I live,
As vain as Narcissus
feeling on my eyes the kiss
you freely give?
