Before her the apartment was unkind.
Serviceable, sure, but not much more.
All the pieces of the room just made a door
Back into my subconscious smoke and wind.
In time, the vows and blessings were arranged
And God ordained us priests to one another,
Eternally confessing sister, brother.
The humble minutes pass, the seasons change.
Today is the first day we’ve been apart
And unlike the old loneliness I’d known
She is still all around me when she’s gone.
Her feelings, breath, desires, all her art,
Her loveliness I will not cease to view,
Her life in mine will always spring anew.
